The reactions of the NFL if material like this surfaced today would be hilarious.

“QB’s are over-paid, over-rated pompous bastards and must be punished.”

This is in the Houston Oilers’ playbook from 1993 (click on the Tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Doug Farrar to read the clip), and while it doesn’t speak to the aggression Ryan’s 4-3 defense unleashed that year, it is interesting to note Gregg Williams, the defensive coordinator of the BountyGate Saints, was the special teams coach.

That team finished 12-4 in 1993, including a 23-3 savage beating of the Steelers in Week 11. William Fuller had four sacks, and the “over-paid, over-rated” Neil O’Donnell finished 13-for-26 in the game, and, not surprising after reading the playbook, was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury.

“Never miss an opportunity to punish the opponent.”

Back-up Mike Tomczak was spared no relief, either. The Oilers picked him…
